A simple, healthy, beginner-friendly home meal.
There is nothing more comforting than a warm plate of home-cooked food.
⭐ Jeera Rice – Ingredients

1 cup Sona Masoori (or any regular rice)
-
1 ½ tbsp oil or butter
-
1 tbsp jeera (cumin seeds)
-
2 ½ cups hot water (adjust based on rice type)
-
Salt – as needed
-
1 tbsp ghee
-
A handful of chopped coriander leaves
⭐ How to Make Jeera Rice
1. Wash & soak rice
-
Wash the rice well and soak it for 30 minutes.
-
Drain the water before cooking.
2. Tempering
-
Heat oil or butter in a pressure cooker.
-
Add 1 tbsp jeera and let it crackle.
3. Fry the rice
-
Add the soaked, drained rice.
-
Fry on high flame for 1 minute, mixing gently.
4. Add hot water
-
Add 2½ cups of hot water.
-
Add salt as per taste.
5. Pressure cook
-
Cook for 2 whistles on medium flame.
-
Let the pressure release naturally.
6. Finish
-
Add 1 tbsp ghee and a handful of coriander leaves.
-
Fluff gently with a fork.
Your jeera rice is ready—soft, fluffy, and fragrant!
⭐ Dal Curry – Ingredients
-
¼ cup moong dal
-
¼ cup toor dal
-
2 cups water
-
Salt – as needed
-
2 garlic cloves (lightly crushed)
-
1 tbsp oil (for tempering)
-
½ tsp mustard seeds
-
½ tsp jeera
-
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
-
1 small onion, chopped or 4-5 shallots
-
1 medium tomato, chopped
-
¼ tsp turmeric powder
-
½ tsp chilli powder
-
2 green chillies, slit
-
A pinch of hing (asafoetida)
-
1 tbsp ghee
-
A handful of coriander leaves
⭐ How to Make Dal Curry
1. Prepare the dal
-
Wash both dals together.
-
Soak for 30 minutes.
-
Add soaked dal, 2 cups water, salt, and garlic into a pressure cooker.
-
Cook for 3 whistles on medium flame.
2. Prepare the tempering
-
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan.
-
Add mustard seeds, jeera, and curry leaves.
-
Add chopped onion and sauté.
-
Add tomato, turmeric powder, Chilli powder, and green chillies.
-
Cook until tomato becomes soft.
3. Mix cooked dal
-
Add the cooked dal into this tempering.
-
Add hing.
-
Mash lightly and let it boil for 3–4 minutes.
4. Final Step
-
Add 1 tbsp ghee and coriander leaves.
Simple, comforting dal is ready!
⭐ Vazhakkai Fry [Raw Plantain] – Ingredients
-
2 medium raw bananas (plantain)
-
1.5 tbsp chilli powder
-
¼ tsp garam masala
-
½ tsp turmeric powder
-
Salt – as needed
-
2–3 tbsp oil (preferably in an iron kadai)
⭐ How to Make Vazhakkai Fry
1. Prep the raw banana
-
Peel and slice into thin round pieces.
2. Marinate
-
Add chilli powder, garam masala, turmeric, and salt.
-
Mix well and let it rest for 30 minutes.
3. Fry
-
Heat oil in an iron kadai(for better taste)
-
Add the marinated banana pieces.
-
Close the lid and cook on medium flame for 10–12 minutes.
4. Make it crispy (optional)
-
Open the lid and fry for another 10 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
Your tasty vazhakkai fry is ready!
